10 MINUTES
- Pier Giorgio De Pinto
- 10 MINUTES
10 minutes (… of my daily life during Covid-19 Pandemic), video Full HD, colour, 16:9, sound; italian, chinese, english languages, 10’03”
The video was made in the same days in which De Pinto was building the mask-sculpture for the exhibition Il Respiro dell’Arte (the Breathing of Art) at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, Italy.
In the video, the feeling of lightheadedness from too much information received is clear. Passively, for dozens of months now, each of us has been hit with news about COVID19 on a daily basis. News often alarming, often absurd; it is difficult to determine which ones make us feel really informed about the pandemic and which ones have only the purpose of terrorizing in order to keep the human being loyal to the directives received by the various governments at both local and global level.
On April 6, 2020 at 18.00 De Pinto for 10 uninterrupted minutes collected what was being broadcast from multiple sources, live news, news from the web, recordings of press conferences via youtube.
The overlapping dialogues that can be heard are in the three languages that many, like De Pinto, have often heard during this Pandemic: Italian, Chinese and English. Thanks to the subtitles via youtube it is possible to follow the news and the press conferences that are held almost daily in Chinese.
If you watch the video and listen to it with headphones you’ll come out really dazed, a digital gimmick that maybe one day, hopefully soon, will make us remember how we felt during this disastrous Pandemic.
